I love to learn. When reflecting on my personal and professional life, the vast majority of my fulfilling and positive experiences involve education in one way or the other. Education gave me freedom, a sense of security and a life, and I want to help others attain that. I was raised in an area where a quality education was difficult to attain and affording college tuition was nearly impossible. The pursuit of education enabled me to achieve a quality of life that I never thought possible and to make a meaningful difference in the quality in the lives of others.
I am proud to say I am a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and Certified Autism Specialist who has gained seventeen years of experience providing services to individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. I obtained my Bachelors of Psychology from the University of Houston and my Masters of Special Education for the University of North Texas. I also hold a safety care trainer certification.
I have been an invited speaker at local universities, national and international organizations presenting on topics such as executive functioning, advanced social cognition, how to teach advanced language skills, and behavior management. Recently, I was an invited speaker at the Autism One conference in Chicago and the Autism Education Summit hosted by Generation Rescue. I am humbled to say I have been awarded a distinguished alumni award from the University of Houston two years in a row and was featured in the Houston business journal for excellence in the field.
I am a a member of Texas Association of Behavior Analysis (TxABA), the Association of Professional Behavior Analysts (APBA), the Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI), a member of the North Texas Autism special interest group and is a charter member of the Texas Behavior Analysis Public Policy Group. I am also currently the Owner and Executive Director of Concept Connections LTD, a clinical practice dedicated to the treatment of autism and other developmental disabilities across the lifespan.
I have always been drawn to people who live and cope with disabilities, particularly those who live with autism and the families that support them. I am extremely driven to understand their motivations, intentions, and learning styles to help them lead happier and fulfilled lives. As a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and Certified Autism Specialist I work in a variety of different areas and environments in order to effectively serve my patients, while leading my own practice.
These experiences have taught me the key to making effective change is the ability to understand and effectively communicate with people. Patients, families, staff members, insurance companies etc. each person brings the accumulation of their life experiences to the table, and the ability to understand how each person processes their world the more likely you are to make effective change. I envision Wind Rose Academy providing quality education, where children find their place. I envision our staff not only a meaningful education but also building community where our students will have fun together and make precious memories.
