Curriculum

All students at Wind Rose Academy are provided with a detailed and individualized Education Plan which includes academic goals specific to that student’s learning needs. Students are given behavior and social plans to help them navigate the classroom and manage social situations. Teaching is done in several formats including large group, small group, and one-on-one. Student/staff ratio in class is one to four with a head teacher and several support staff. Students in our classes have a wide range of communication abilities from the fully conversational to students who use communication devices. Teachers and support staff are trained to support language development across the range of abilities.

Explorer

The Explorer class is our youngest class and spans from Pre-K through lower elementary. Students in this class are beginning to learn the routines of school along with basic academics, including the building blocks of reading and mathematics. Beginning students in this class start by learning their alphabet and numbers. They learn to write and to build fine motor skills. More advanced students are readers and are working on elementary level math. Focus is given to vocabulary and knowledge-based teaching including themed lessons in science and social studies.

Voyager

The Voyager class spans between upper elementary and lower middle school. Students in this class have a wide range of abilities. Some continue to work on beginning reading and math skills, while others focus on more advanced math and language arts. Social studies and science as well as global vocabulary are a strong focus as well as continued work with handwriting and fine motor skills.

Navigator

Our Navigator class consists of students from upper middle school through graduation. Students in this class range in ability from beginning academics in reading and mathematics through students who work on or near grade level based on their age. Students in this class focus on academics that will support them upon graduation, helping them to become more independent and work-ready.
