Our Program

“I’m not afraid of storms, for I’m learning how to sail my ship.” -Louisa May Alcott

“Thought is the Wind, Knowledge is the Sail, and Mankind is the Vessel.” -Augustus Hare

For students diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental and social challenges, it is vital that current educational goals be geared toward helping them experience success across the lifespan.

Wind Rose, which is another term for a compass rose, was carefully chosen as the name of our school because we believe that it perfectly symbolizes the importance of helping our students navigate through life.

In looking at a sailing ship it is often easy to become distracted by its beautiful buoyant sails, but it is important to remember that the hull and helm, as well as other parts of the ship are equally important in ensuring that a vessel reaches its destination.

Wind Rose Academy is committed to ensuring not only that a student has the sturdy sails of strong academic expectations, but also that they are given a protective hull of social and emotional teaching. Without effective career and life preparation, however, a student is left with no helm with which to steer their ship.

We are therefore, dedicated to teaching the whole child. Sail, hull, and helm.

Along with high quality teaching that focuses on achievable mastery-based standards, students are supported with onsite ABA therapy, both in the classroom, and one-on-one as needed. Speech therapy and occupational therapy are available on site as well as regular social skills teaching and field trips. Intensive thought and care has gone into helping students prepare for future life and career goals including work readiness programs as they move into the more advanced grades.

Each child is unique, with their own strengths and challenges, they each have a different map that they will use to navigate through life. It is the goal of Wind Rose Academy to help each child to prepare for that journey.
